# KPI vs Private Attribute

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Private Attribute" %}
**Definition**: It's a categorisation or tag assigned to an investment that remains internal to a fund. It is not shared publicly.\
\
**Purpose**:

* Maintain consistency within the fund.
* Conduct fund-level analytics.

**Usage**:

* Assign internal ratings to companies.
* Categorise investments into internally defined sectors.
* Assign investments to a specific Portfolio Manager.
* Tag investments based on an Impact Mission.
* **Flexibility**: Can be quite flexible, depending on the internal needs of the fund.
* **Visibility**: Strictly private and for internal use only
  {% endtab %}

{% tab title="KPI (Key Performance Indicator)" %}
**Definition**: A measurable value that demonstrates how effectively a company or organization is achieving key business objectives.\
\
**Purpose**:

* Monitor the progress of an organization toward its defined goals.
* Provide actionable insights to improve performance.

**Usage**:

* Assess the financial health (e.g., revenue, profit margins).
* Gauge customer satisfaction and loyalty.
* Measure operational efficiency (e.g., production turnaround time).
* Track employee performance and productivity.
* **Flexibility**: Often standardized to allow for comparison across periods, sectors, or competitors, though they can be customized to a company's specific needs.
* **Visibility**: Can be both public (for shareholders, customers, and other stakeholders) or private (for internal use).
  {% endtab %}
  {% endtabs %}

**Comparison**

* **Nature:** Private attributes classify/tag data; KPIs measure performance.
* **Purpose:** Private attributes support internal consistency; KPIs track progress toward goals.
* **Visibility:** Private attributes are internal; KPIs can be internal or external.
* **Flexibility:** Both are customisable, but KPIs are often standardised.
* **Usage:** Private attributes categorise investments; KPIs apply broadly across business performance.

**Summary:** Private attributes organise internal data, while KPIs track and drive performance against objectives.
